It’s half-term once again. February is a strange time; the weather can be unpredictable, but the kids want to go and do something while they’re off school.
So, we’ve pulled together a few suggestions to help you plan the perfect half-term day trip. Some of these ideas run way past half term too, making them perfect for over easter or even the summer holidays if you want to book or bank some ideas for later in 2025.

Horrible Histories Trail at Osterley Park
Dive into the Georgian era with an interactive walking trail featuring activities like the Marvellous Make-Up Gallery and the Wheel of Woe. Running from 17th February to 31st August 2025, this is a fantastic way to spend the day exploring a stunning National Trust site.

Jorvik Viking Festival, York
York is a stunning city to visit at any time. From the Shambles to the city walls, the whole place is steeped in a rich history. This February, you can experience even more with Europe’s largest Viking festival with living history encampments, workshops, combat performances, and more. Scheduled from 17th to 23rd February 2025.
Parking in York can be expensive, but luckily, we can help – pre-book at the Asda in Layerthorpe, and the city centre is just a short walk away.

Dark Skies Festival, North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales
The Dark Skies Festival doesn’t need a road trip, just the ability to get outside and look up at the stars. There are events at National Parks across the UK, helping everyone understand more of what you can see in the night’s sky, with loads of other activities and camping available. This could be a wonderful way to spend a weekend if the weather holds up.

The Robot Zoo at Horniman Museum, London
If you’re visiting London and want to experience something a little bit weird and wonderful, then the Robot Zoo might be exactly what you need.
Explore mechanical animals like a robotic rhino and a squid with 18-foot tentacles. This exhibition, running from 14th February to 2nd November 2025, showcases how animals adapt to their environments and how they live and hunt.

Festival of Archery at Warwick Castle
Warwick Castle is full of incredible activities and attractions, but this half term they’re showcasing even more through their Festival of Archery.
Witness expert archers showcase their skills through live shows, interactive quizzes, and have-a-go sessions. The festival takes place from the 15th to the 23rd of February 2025 within the castle’s historic grounds.

Dive into a unique universe where the popular game meets marine life. From 8th February to 9th March 2025, explore ‘Sea Life Islands’ and engage in interactive activities inspired by Animal Crossing.
